amalgamation of some 50 building societies including the Liverpool and Birmingham & Bridgwater Building Societies.

network is concentrated in the core areas of the West Midlands, North West
and South West. the Wolverhampton head office also provides a range of post
and telephone savings accounts and services.
In April
1999 Birmingham Midshires became part of the Halifax Group, retaining its
own brand, branches and product range whilst being able to draw on the considerable
resource and market expertise of its parent.
Operating
as a division of Halifax plc, Birmingham Midshires now provides a range of
specialist lending, savings and insurance products. It employs over 2000 people
and has managed assets in excess of £11 billion. the Corporate Headquarters
are based in Wolverhampton.
In September
2001, Halifax and the Bank of Scotland merged to form a new force in banking
